A man and woman believed to be behind a string of car break-ins have been nabbed by police. In last Wednesday’s Auckland City Harbour News Ponsonby community policing team Constable Brendon Muir warned users of the Meola Reef Reserve car park in Pt Chevalier to take care of their valuables after a number of vehicles parked there were broken into. As a precaution the team was monitoring the car park. ‘‘We were watching for a particular car and particular people after they had used credit cards that weren’t theirs,’’ Mr Muir says. When the car returned to the park it was spotted by the officers. ‘‘There was a lot of stolen property in the car like handbags and tools,’’ Mr Muir says. The pair are believed to have been involved in other crime around Auckland and are facing theft and fraud-related charges. The man has been remanded in custody until he reappears in court next week. Mr Muir says while it is a good result people still need to take care to secure their belongings.
