Chance for teens to get Creatif and win awards
Teenagers are being asked to put their creative skills to the test for Youthtown’s Creatifs Young Designer Awards.
The awards are open to all 13 to 18-year-olds who are passionate about art, fashion and design and want to challenge their creativity.
Tertiary institute AUT has come on board as principal sponsor for the awards, which are in two categories – the AUT Wearable Art Award and the AUT Fashion Design Award.
The wearable art category is challenging designers to create a mask inspired by their ‘‘identity’’.
For the fashion design award entrants are being asked to produce a ready-towear garment.
Young clothing designers will need to demonstrate their ability to be fashion forward and express their individual style.
Youthtown chief executive officer Paula Kearns says the awards were launched last year to help uncover and nurture creative talent.
‘‘Youthtown prides itself on inspiring young people to realise their potential through creative, physical and social experiences.
‘‘This year’s awards provides a perfect opportunity for our country’s talented youngsters to express who they are and actively demonstrate what influences them.’’
This year sees a new interactive voting element which will allow the public to vote for their favourite entry from a shortlist of six finalists in each category.
The Girlfriend People’s Choice Award will be implemented through Youthtown’s Creatif Facebook page in September.
Ms Kearns says this new element will give finalists the opportunity to share their achievement with friends and family while showcasing their talent to the public.
Registrations for the Youthtown Creatifs Young Designers Awards close on August 23. Winners will be announced in late September.
