Disabled youth will be able to dance up a storm at a special disco later this month.

The free event caters for young people aged between 12 and 24 with mental or physical disabilities and will be held at the Roskill Youth Zone on June 22.

Entertainment on the night will be provided by StarJam dancers.

StarJam is an organisation that creates national and international performance opportunities for young people with disabilities.

As well as the Jammers there will be a red carpet and a roaming professional photographer.

There will also be food and lounge space in the kitchen area. Quiet rooms will be provided for carers at the venue.

A similar disco was held in Henderson which drew around 600 people – the capacity for the Mt Roskill event is 350.

The event is co-organised and co-funded by the AlbertEden and Puketapapa Local Boards to the tune of $8000.

Puketapapa board member Ella Kumar says it is pleased to partner with its neighbouring board to deliver a ‘‘fun red-carpet night event for youth in our community that are not always catered for’’.

The disco for youth with disabilities will be held on June 22, 6pm to 9pm, at Ros-

kill Youth Zone, Mt Roskill.
