Vandal caught in act

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

A frustrated car owner slept in his vehicle in a bid to catch whoever was scratching it late at night.

The ploy paid off and police were called when the man caught a vandal in the act.

Craig Biggs and his wife Kim say their car was scratched six times over six months while parked on the road at St Mary’s Bay.

Mr Biggs was away when the first spate of attacks occurred and his wife began to fear something sinister was afoot.

‘‘I thought someone was out to get me,’’ she says.

‘‘They were really, really hard lines down the side of the car, it’s done thousands of dollars of damage.’’

Avondale Senior Sergeant Ross EndicottDavies says police are also investigating a number of similar complaints.

‘‘They appear to be where vehicles have been parked possibly obstructing the pavement,’’ he says.

A woman charged in connection with the latest incident will appear in the Auckland District Court on June 25.
