The stars are aligned for a cel­e­bra­tion of Matariki through a range of fas­ci­nat­ing free events at Auck­land Li­braries dur­ing June and July.

The Matariki star clus­ter has risen into our skies mark­ing a time when whanau come to­gether to cel­e­brate the Maori New Year.

It is a time to re­flect on the past, to re­mem­ber those who have passed on and to plan for the fu­ture. This year, Matariki also co­in­cides with Maori Lan­guage Week which starts on July 1.

To cel­e­brate the two events Auck­land’s li­braries will be pro­mot­ing its ex­ten­sive Maori re­sources.

On Sun­day there will be a na­tive plant dye demon­stra­tion at Mt Al­bert Li­brary and un­til Oc­to­ber 20 Manatunga, an ex­hi­bi­tion show­cas­ing Maori taonga from Ta Hori Kerei-Nga Ko­hinga Taonga Whakahi­rahira/the Sir Ge­orge Grey Spe­cial Col­lec­tions will be dis­played at the Auck­land Cen­tral City Li­brary.
