The stars are aligned for a celebration of Matariki through a range of fascinating free events at Auckland Libraries during June and July.
The Matariki star cluster has risen into our skies marking a time when whanau come together to celebrate the Maori New Year.
It is a time to reflect on the past, to remember those who have passed on and to plan for the future. This year, Matariki also coincides with Maori Language Week which starts on July 1.
To celebrate the two events Auckland’s libraries will be promoting its extensive Maori resources.
On Sunday there will be a native plant dye demonstration at Mt Albert Library and until October 20 Manatunga, an exhibition showcasing Maori taonga from Ta Hori Kerei-Nga Kohinga Taonga Whakahirahira/the Sir George Grey Special Collections will be displayed at the Auckland Central City Library.
