Win­ter sport gets square ex­po­sure

The un­fa­mil­iar roar of curl­ing stones will echo through Aotea Square on Sun­day.

Curlers will be putting the tem­po­rary Aotea Square Ice Rink to good use dur­ing the open­ing week­end of the rink’s sec­ond year in the square.

Auck­land Curl­ing Club will demon­strate how to play the win­ter Olympic sport and in­vite any­one who is keen to give it a go.

Curl­ing has been played in New Zealand for more than 120 years.

Auck­land Curl­ing Club pres­i­dent Ian Ford says the club is de­lighted to bring the sport into the city cen­tre where every­one can see it.

Auck­land curlers will be on the ice from 9am till 10am and mem­bers will be on hand to help out and an­swer any ques­tions.

The ice rink is open un­til Au­gust 11.
