Winter sport gets square exposure
The unfamiliar roar of curling stones will echo through Aotea Square on Sunday.
Curlers will be putting the temporary Aotea Square Ice Rink to good use during the opening weekend of the rink’s second year in the square.
Auckland Curling Club will demonstrate how to play the winter Olympic sport and invite anyone who is keen to give it a go.
Curling has been played in New Zealand for more than 120 years.
Auckland Curling Club president Ian Ford says the club is delighted to bring the sport into the city centre where everyone can see it.
Auckland curlers will be on the ice from 9am till 10am and members will be on hand to help out and answer any questions.
The ice rink is open until August 11.
