En­list in pink army and fight can­cer In­vi­ta­tion to Asian writ­ers

En­thu­si­as­tic lo­cals are be­ing re­cruited for the pink army.

The Pink Rib­bon street ap­peal is on Oc­to­ber 11 and 12 and vol­un­teers are be­ing sought by the New Zealand Breast Can­cer Foun­da­tion.

Money from this year’s col­lec­tion will fund life­sav­ing aware­ness and ed­u­ca­tion pro­grammes, re­search into new tar­geted treat­ments, sup­port for women go­ing through breast can­cer and the new 0800 BC NURSE ad­vice line.

As part of breast can­cer month in Oc­to­ber women are be­ing re­minded to be aware and to look af­ter their health.

Statis­tics show about 2800 women will be di­ag­nosed with breast can­cer this year, one in nine women will be di­ag­nosed over the course of their life­time and more than 600 will die.

Start putting pen to pa­per be­cause ap­pli­ca­tions are now open for the 2014 New Zealand So­ci­ety of Au­thors Asia Short Story Award.

The com­pe­ti­tion is open to New Zealand per­ma­nent res­i­dents who are Asian or of Asian eth­nic­ity with the win­ner re­ceiv­ing $1000.

The story must be be­tween 2500 and 3500 words.

En­tries must be re­ceived by De­cem­ber 6.
