YouTube star signs up for Diwali Festival

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

Internet sensation Lilly Singh – better known to over a million YouTube followers as Superwoman – will be a star attraction at the Auckland Diwali Festival on October 19 and 20.

The 24-year-old lives in Canada and has gained glo- bal recognition with her blogs and videos that feature comedy, poetry, rap and dance.

Her work is influenced by her Punjabi heritage and Diwali organisers say that makes her a great fit for the two-day event that will transform Aotea Square and Queen St into an Indian bazaar with more than 50 food and craft stalls.

Lilly’s visit is supported by Radio Tarana and spokesman Robert Khan says her two free ticketed shows at the Herald Theatre will res- onate with the city’s youth in particular.

Diwali, organised by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) in partnership with the Asia New Zealand Foundation, runs from noon to 9pm and is the region’s largest free multicultural vegetarian festival.
