A last minute goal from star player Jade Parris saw Mt Albert Grammar School’s first XI girls’ football side crowned New Zealand Secondary School champions.

The team turned the tables on Rangitoto College, the side they lost to at the Auckland Knockout Cup last month, by beating them 1-0 to take the national title on September 6.

Mt Albert striker Jade scored the winning goal from a penalty late in the match.

Coach Paul Marshall says the girls were ‘‘magic’’ and pulled off an outstanding victory.

‘‘We were brilliant out of possession and won the ball back every time setting the platform for the win.

‘‘We created some very good scor- ing opportunities and eventually got a decisive penalty.’’

The team won every game they played during the week.
