The Wattie’s Cans Film Festival returns this year to help New Zealanders in need and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival.

Kiwis have supported the cause for years by swapping a can of food for a movie ticket at the cinema.

With each can donated Wattie’s adds another can of their own and all cans are then given to the Salvation Army Christmas appeal.

Last year more than 43,000 cans were donated by festivalgoers and this year Wattie’s hopes for even more donations.

With the 20th anni- versary looming Watties is planning new activities as part of this festival to involve more people in the cause as well as have a little fun for the celebration.

From November 4 Aucklanders can head to a participating cinema and swap a can for a movie ticket.

On November 13 they can return to watch the chosen movie.

Reading Cinemas, Event Cinemas and Hoyts Cinemas are taking part.
