Body artist commended
Body artist Carly Marr is celebrating after her work on a human canvas was recognised at the NZ Body Art Showcase.
The Grey Lynn artist was awarded a special commendation in the Weta Workshop SPFX Creatures category at the awards held at the Bruce Mason Centre on September 21.
Her model Shannon Marr was transformed from head to toe in paint and prosthetics to become the Elephant Man for the circus-inspired creation.
This year’s showcase was superior to previous years, executive director Jonathan Smith says.
‘‘Due to an obvious increase in artist abilities and creativity and amazing performances from the Apollo Theatre School and Silver Circle acrobats.’’
The show will take a break next year to enable organisers to restyle it and hopefully get more sponsors on board before it returns in 2015.
