Grammar captain is off to national team
Mt Albert Grammar School’s First XV rugby captain is on his way to bigger goals as he joins the New Zealand Secondary Schools rugby team.
Joshua Goodhue has been selected as lock for the national team and will travel to Sydney to play tests against Fiji, Australia A and Australia this weekend until October 5.
First XV coach Geoff Moon says Goodhue’s national selection was expected and deserved.
‘‘No-one who has worked closely with Josh is surprised,’’ he says.
‘‘He is like a young Richie McCaw – bright, brave and courageous. He has the work ethic of a sportsman destined to do well and this is a great reward for a young man who always puts the team before himself,’’ the proud coach says.
‘‘His selection for the national secondary schools team has been the highlight of the season.’’
