Plates to go on show

Lopdell House Gallery is bringing back the annual Crown Lynn design competition to exhibit homegrown ceramic designs.

The competition is a chance for designers to see their work turned into ceramic tableware.

During The Portage Ceramic Awards at Silo Park there will be a ‘plate station’ set up where visitors can create their own ceramic plate designs and have them displayed along the inner walls of a silo.

Finalists will be shortlisted by a judging panel, which includes design historian Michael Smythe and the final winners selected by three times Crown Lynn competition winner turned Crown Lynn designer Mark Cleverley.

The two winning designs will be announ- ced on November 21 via the Lopdell House Gallery website and Facebook with each winner receiving a limited edition set of ceramic plates bearing their design.

Design templates are also available at lopdell. org.nz and at Masterworks Gallery and The Poi Room as a take home flyer.

The competition runs from Friday to November 10.

Kiwi style: Crown Lynn’s ceramic tableware developed a distinctive New Zealand design style.
