Arthritis appeal begins
Arthritis New Zealand is holding its annual appeal until September 30 to try and raise funds to continue its services.
An estimated 220,000 Aucklanders live with some form of arthritis and although it is often thought of as a condition that affects older people it can also hinder the lives of children.
There are around 1000 children across the country living with the debilitating disorder.
‘‘There are children in New Zea- land who are taking chemotherapy drugs, not because they have cancer, but because they have arthritis,’’ an Arthritis New Zealand spokesman says.
‘‘And there are parents who can’t hug their children because it hurts too much.’’
You can support the appeal by donating to collectors on the street or texting ‘joints’ to 5464.
