Many ways to mark Auck­land her­itage

The Auck­land Her­itage Fes­ti­val kicks off this week­end.

With more than 200 free or low cost events avail­able, there are lots of ac­tiv­i­ties to get the kids in­volved in th­ese school hol­i­days.

‘‘Auck­land has no sin­gle his­tory, and the Her­itage Fes­ti­val re­flects that, weav­ing to­gether di­verse lo­cal his­tory, mil­i­tary, sport­ing and busi­ness his­tory, fash­ion and tex­tiles, and also a look at the his­to­ries of our Maori, Pa­cific and Chi­nese Auck- lan­ders,’’ mayor Len Brown says.

‘‘There are events specif­i­cally for kids and fam­i­lies, and a lot of op­por­tu­nity for peo­ple to learn how to cap­ture their own fam­ily or lo­cal his­tory.’’

The fes­ti­val kicks off this Satur­day at the ren­o­vated Shed 10 build­ing on Queens Wharf.
