Neighbours unite in an emergency
A series of events this weekend will promote the importance of being prepared for an emergency.
Auckland Civil Defence, a division of Auckland Council, is hosting events on the theme of Know your neighbours, know your community.
Aucklanders are being urged to get to know their neighbours better.
‘‘This is a great reminder to Aucklanders about the importance of talking with their neighbours about how they could help each other during a disaster,’’ Auckland Civil Defence controller Clive Manley says.
‘‘During a disaster, emergency services will be heavily stretched. You could be on your own for three or more days and your most immediate form of assistance will come from your neighbours and community.’’
Auckland Civil Defence is holding events around the region to raise awareness about how to prepare for an emergency.
These include displays at St Lukes Westfield mall until Sunday and weekend activities at the Auckland Museum Volcanoes exhibition.
