Cancer appeal is food for thought
A Summer GastroFest with some of New Zealand’s finest chefs will be held on November 7 to fundraise for gastrointestinal cancer research.
The Gastro-Intestinal Cancer Institute of New Zealand has teamed up with the chefs to produce a five-course menu, to be held at Ponsonby.
Four Kiwi chefs created the menu including Brenton Thornton (Euro), Kirsty Cardy ( MasterChef 2010), Julia Crownshaw (Dollop and New Zealand’s Hottest Home Baker judge) and Jess Daniell (Jess’s Underground Kitchen) and is matched by Matua wines and Moa beer.
A charity auction will also take place as well as giveaways, all hosted by TV personality Carly Flynn.
Gastro-intestinal cancers include cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and bowel. In total they are the most common form of cancer in New Zealand.
With nearly 4000 new cases each year, most New Zealanders are likely to know someone who is affected.
