It’s one of the biggest cultural extravaganzas Auckland has to offer.

And that’s why we’re thrilled to climb on board as a major media partner.

This year’s Diwali Festival on October 19 and 20 is proudly supported by Suburban Newspapers, publisher of the Auckland City Harbour News.

The event is delivered by ATEED and the Asian New Zealand Foundation and is also known as the Festival of Lights.

It includes a smorgasbord of Indian food, music, art dance, fashion and theatrics.

Parts of Queen St and Aotea Square will undergo a radical transformation from noon till 9pm as thousands of people enjoy two days of colour and entertainment, capped off on Sunday by a grand fireworks finale.

‘‘More than 70 per cent of this country’s Indian population lives in Auckland,’’ Fairfax Northern Region manager David Penny says. ‘‘The Indian community is extraordinarily diverse and its range of cultures are now an integral part of our city’s landscape.

‘‘Diwali brings it all together and is a celebration of yet another great reason to be an Aucklander. It’s something the whole family can enjoy.’’
