Finalist’s time to shine
Talented young songwriters and performers will battle it out for the title of University of Auckland’s Songwriter of the Year tomorrow.
Central Auckland songwriter Jamie Moana is among the five finalists and emerging artists studying popular music at the university who won their place after the semifinals in July.
Judges, including established songwriters and music industry representatives, will select the winners across the categories.
The contestants will perform two original songs in front of an audience at Maidment Theatre.
Five new awards will be up for grabs this year for best vocalist, lyricist, instrumentalist, arranger and song.
The winner of Songwriter of the Year will win a professionally produced, recorded and mastered single courtesy of Roundhead Studio, Kog Studio and producer Godfrey de Grut.
Ruby Walsh, who took the Supreme Award at the Secondary Schools National Songwriter Awards held in August, will also make a guest performance.
The night kicks off at 7pm at the Maidment Theatre, 8 Albert St.
