Power savings are just a click away
It seems like every year the power bill increases. But do you know you could save money on your power bill just by switching power companies?
Research done by the Electricity Authority using 2012 data estimated that 50 per cent of New Zealand households paid more than the average power price that was available to them. If all eligible households had switched to the cheapest electricity provider in their region that year, they could have saved an average of $175 each or $295 million in total.
To find out how much you could save, simply go to the website www. whatsmynumber.org.nz and use their simple calculator to find out what your estimated savings could be.
If you want a more accurate idea of your possible savings, What’s My Number then clicks you through to Consumer NZ’s site www. powerswitch.org.nz. It also shows you the cost of using power from all energy retailers in your area, and makes switching retailers easy to do.
By using Powerswitch, you can switch and start saving right away. Of course, you may discover that you’re already on the best available plan for your household – but at least you’ll know you’re getting the best deal at the moment.
What’s My Number is an initiative of the Electricity Authority, working together with Consumer Affairs and Consumer NZ to help New Zealanders make more informed choices about their electricity suppliers.
Powerswitch is provided by Consumer NZ with support from Consumer Affairs. Set a savings target The team at Consumer NZ has developed a great little feature to make it even easier. You can go onto the Powerswitch website right now and set up a savings target. This is the amount of savings for which you’d be happy to make a switch.
Simply run through the Powerswitch questionnaire with a recent power bill and set up a Powerswitch alert. Powerswitch will keep track of prices and email you when there are savings to be had.
You can then switch to the cheaper power provider if you want, and then set up another savings target and let Powerswitch get back to work, tracking prices for you again.
It all starts at the What’s My Number website www.whatsmy number.org.nz.
So get online now, estimate your savings and see if you can join the thousands of other Kiwis who have made the switch to cheaper power.
