A young woman is dead after the car she was driving collided with a power pole. Harriet Hemana, 20, died after the collison on Carrington Rd at 5.30am on Sunday. Three passengers from the car were taken to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition and are recovering. It took some time to identify the driver because the passengers were semi-conscious when emergency services arrived, Auckland Central Police Senior Sergeant Matt Knowsley says. The car collided with another before hitting the power pole and police are trying to establish if it crossed the centre line, Mr Knowsley says. The driver of the other car was not seriously injured. Police are awaiting the results of tests to find out if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Carrington Rd was closed between Great North and Segar roads for a large part of Sunday while the police serious crash unit investigated. Ms Hemana was from Parakai.
