En­tries are open for those keen to take part in this year’s Great Kid­sCan Santa Run.

On De­cem­ber 4 peo­ple of all ages will dress in Santa suits for a 2 kilo­me­tre to 3km run or walk to raise money for New Zealand chil­dren liv­ing in poverty.

Last year the na­tion­wide event at­tracted 3500 par­tic­i­pants and or­gan­is­ers are hop­ing to boost the num­ber of San­tas to more than 5000 this year. There are sev­eral Auck­land cour­ses in­clud­ing one through the Viaduct.

The Santa Run is a ma­jor fundraiser for Kid­sCan. Each en­trant re­ceives a Santa suit and a goodie bag as part of their en­try fee.

The Kid­sCan Char­i­ta­ble Trust is en­cour­ag­ing busi­nesses, in­di­vid­u­als and fam­i­lies to get be­hind the event.

‘‘The Santa Run is a great event for peo­ple to get in­volved in,’’ Kid­sCan founder and chief ex­ec­u­tive Julie Chap­man says. ‘‘We have been part of the run for four years now and ev­ery dol­lar raised helps us con­tinue our work sup­port­ing Kiwi kids.’’
