Can ki­wifruit help your stomach prob­lem?

Peo­ple with trou­ble­some tum­mies are be­ing sought for a study that looks into the ef­fects of ki­wifruit on the di­ges­tive sys­tem.

The Uni­ver­sity of Auck­land’s Hu­man Nutri­tion Unit is look­ing for men and women aged be­tween 20-65 who have ex­pe­ri­enced con­sti­pa­tion or reg­u­lar bowel dis­com­fort, but are in oth­er­wise good health.

The study is not suit­able for any­one di­ag­nosed with Ir­ri­ta­ble Bowel Syn­drome, Crohn’s or Coeliac dis­ease.

The 10-week trial re­quires around 40 peo­ple to take part.

Par­tic­i­pants will be given cap­sules that con­tain a ki­wifruit ex­tract or a placebo.

Peo­ple tak­ing part will be re­quired to visit the re­search team at the unit in Mt Eden a few times.

A small gra­tu­ity will be of­fered for the time taken to par­tic­i­pate in the study and to cover travel costs.

Par­tic­i­pants will also be given a copy of their re­sults on re­quest.
