Can kiwifruit help your stomach problem?
People with troublesome tummies are being sought for a study that looks into the effects of kiwifruit on the digestive system.
The University of Auckland’s Human Nutrition Unit is looking for men and women aged between 20-65 who have experienced constipation or regular bowel discomfort, but are in otherwise good health.
The study is not suitable for anyone diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn’s or Coeliac disease.
The 10-week trial requires around 40 people to take part.
Participants will be given capsules that contain a kiwifruit extract or a placebo.
People taking part will be required to visit the research team at the unit in Mt Eden a few times.
A small gratuity will be offered for the time taken to participate in the study and to cover travel costs.
Participants will also be given a copy of their results on request.
