Ready for digital?

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

Friday marks one month until TV goes digital in Auckland and Going Digital is urging viewers to check that friends and family members have got Freeview, Sky or Igloo.

‘‘Digital TV is already here, and you can go digital today,’’ campaign manager Greg Harford says.

‘‘If you don’t have Freeview, Sky or Igloo before December 1 you won’t be able to watch TV.’’

While most people have already gone digital, he is encouraging viewers to check with family members, neighbours and friends that they have gone digital and know what to do in order to keep watching their favourite shows.

‘‘Aside from being an important leisure activity, TV is an important part of the way New Zealanders connect with each other.’’

He says surveys show about 45,000 households in the Auckland region still need to act over the next month.

Going Digital has been working in the community for nearly three years now to raise awareness of the move to digital TV but many people may also value advice from a friend or family member.

Going Digital also offers a targeted assistance package to support those groups likely to face the greatest financial and technical barriers in going digital.

People who meet the criteria and have not already gone digital are eligible to receive equipment, installation and training free of charge, but they need to call urgently if they want to take up the package and have it installed before TV goes digital.
