Par­nell bag first in­nings points after day 1

Par­nell al­ready have first in­nings points in the bag after day one of their match with Grafton United for the Hed­ley Howarth Tro­phy.

Grafton’s Lochie Fer­gu­son was out to prove a point in his first two-day ma­jor cham­pi­onship out­ing of the 2013/14 cam­paign on Satur­day. The speed­ster took two early wick­ets at Shore Rd be­fore com­ing back to claim two more.

Michael Ravlic proved to be al­most un­playable re­turn­ing fig­ures of 3/23 from 15 overs as the vis­i­tors crum­bled to 114 all out in just 48 overs.

The hosts also lost reg­u­lar wick­ets in their re­sponse but a half-cen­tury from cap­tain Wil­liam Brit­tain en­sured Par­nell claimed a first in­nings vic­tory.

They take a 15 run lead into the sec­ond day with five wick­ets in hand and Dave God­dard un­beaten on 34.

New World Vic­to­ria Park Grafton United 114 (L Fer­gu­son 4/33, M Ravlic 3/23) against Par­nell 129/5 (W Brit­tain 51, D God­dard 34no, S Ra­jasekar 3/37) after day one.
