Record 17,000 go for run in the sun
A record 17,000 competitors got out in the Auckland sunshine on Sunday to take part in the adidas Auckland Marathon.
Kicking off in Devonport, runners of all levels joined in, with some completing a full marathon and others taking part in a 5 kilometre walk.
The race finished at Victoria Park, where runners were greeted by crowds of supporters, plenty of water and a sausage sizzle.
Timaru’s Samuel Wreford was the first to complete the full marathon.
He did it in a time of two hours and 18 minutes.
