Grafton thwarts Parnell

Auckland City Harbour News - - SPORT -

After securing first innings points on the opening day, Parnell Cricket Club pushed for an outright victory against Grafton United when play resumed at Shore Rd.

Parnell declared their innings overnight with their 15-run lead, hoping to make early inroads into the visiting lineup once again.

Grafton openers Andy Lane and Bill Walsh thwarted that plan with a 66-run opening stand.

But three wickets in the space of two overs kept the hosts’ outright hopes alive.

At this stage Shikhar Chaturvedi joined Walsh at the crease.

The pair stood firm for 32 overs before Chaturvedi was dismissed for 32.

An outright now looked out of the equation with Walsh having soaked up 176 deliveries while carrying his bat for 64 to give Grafton a lead of 152. With less than an hour’s play remaining, the visitors declared their innings with the hosts making it to 57/1 before the end of the match.

Grafton take on East Coast Bays at Windsor Park this weekend.
