Players help future stars
Future league stars are already taking their first steps towards a career in the sport.
The Auckland Rugby League Junior Elite Training (JET) Programme will be held on November 30 at St Paul’s College with Auckland’s top 12 to 15-year-old club players attending training sessions from 6.30am to 7pm.
The Instant Finance JETS camp aims to advance young players’ basic league skills, goal planning, self confidence and game awareness.
Auckland Rugby League football development officer James Pulehega says the annual event provides invaluable learning opportunities.
He is hoping NRL Warrior Sam Rapira will be able to attend the camp alongside under-20s Warriors players such as James Taylor. The players will talk to the youngsters about how to get to the top of the sport, he says.
‘‘It’s a real opportunity for top players to mould them so they can start to understand what the requirements are when they get serious about their future in rugby league.’’
