New campaign aimed at 20 to 29-year-olds
A new campaign aimed at reducing drink-driving over the festive season has been launched.
With Christmas and New Year’s Eve just weeks away Auckland Transport has launched ‘‘Make It Home Safely’’ with a focus on reaching those aged 20-29.
‘‘Drink-driving is a major problem in New Zealand,’’ community transport manager Matthew Rednall says.
‘‘In Auckland between 2008 and 2012 there were 107 fatalities and 633 serious injuries caused by alcohol and drug related crashes.’’
Although drink-driving is an issue across all ages, statistics show people aged 20 to 29 are responsible for just under half of all fatal alcohol related crashes.
‘‘To communicate with this group, we have developed a campaign focused on cinemas and online.’’
Mr Rednall says the weeks leading up to Christmas are a ‘‘ high risk’’ time for alcohol related crashes.
