Organisers of the Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park event are already looking ahead to the big 21st birthday event in 2014.

But they readily admit – this year’s extravaganza will be a hard act to follow.

An estimated crowd of up to 200,000 people braved scorching temperatures to enjoy what spokeswoman Deborah Delaney says was the greatest show yet.

The December 14 event, supported by Suburban Newspapers, publisher of the Auckland City Harbour News, featured a lineup of acts including Stan Walker, Sol3 Mio and X-Factor stars Jackie Thomas and Benny Tipene. It was also the last show for long-time supporter Frankie Stevens who says he’s stepping aside after 18 years to let some of the country’s new talent take centre stage.

‘‘All good things must end at some particular stage in life,’’ he says. ‘‘Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park has been one of the highlights of my career. I’ll miss it and I’ll miss the people more.’’
