Artisans open up
The artisan winegrowers of Waiheke Island are holding a nine-day Vintage festival from March 29 to April 6, timed to give visitors as many options as possible. There will be events at 17 vineyards ranging from grape picking and crushing, to food and wine matching lunches, technical wine making tours, opera and jazz concerts and ceramic and sculpture exhibitions. At Passage Rock you can pick your own grapes, crush them and bottle them. At Obsidian you can take part in a 10-year vertical bordeaux blend wine tasting. Buses will run between the vineyards. Pay $42.50 for your ferry and all day bus pass. See waihekevintagefestival.co.nz for more information.
