Public submissions on a proposed navigation by-law will close on March 17. The Auckland Council is proposing several changes to the existing boating rules including making the wearing of life jackets on board a vessel of six metres in length or less compulsory. Carrying a VHS radio or mobile phone could also be made compulsory. The new bylaw will be in effect for the summer of 2014/2015.
