Mod­ern touch to Shake­speare

A rarely per­formed Shake­spearean tale of voy­ages and death-de­fy­ing es­capes will be brought to the stage for the 51st Auck­land Sum­mer Shake­speare sea­son.

Cen­tral city res­i­dent Caleb Wells will nar­rate the pro­duc­tion of Per­i­cles, Prince Of Tyre in the out­door se­ries.

The play can be likened to a Hol­ly­wood chase film.

Di­rec­tor Ge­off Allen says Per­i­cles will be a great way to in­tro­duce speare.

‘‘We’ve made it con­tem­po­rary, with a live rock band, mo­tor­bike stunts, and more,’’ he says.

It is lesser known, yet one of Shake­speare’s most suc­cess­ful works.

Shake- and fam­ily lost and found.

Even in­ter­mis­sion will be en­ter­tain­ing. Spec­ta­tors have a chance to play cricket with three cheeky fish­er­men, while ac­tors por­tray­ing denizens of the brothel where the play’s hero­ine is trapped will fre­quent the arena.
