Call for school plan flexibility

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

The Ministry of Education is back at the drawing board to find solutions for roll-growth pressure in Pt Chevalier.

The ministry consulted with the community last year, presenting the options to either build more classrooms at the already stretched Pt Chevalier School or turn Pasadena Intermediate into a full primary.

‘‘The communities told us that the current issues shouldn’t be considered in isolation, and a long term plan for a sustainable, flexible schooling network should be developed,’’ spokeswoman Katrina Casey says.

There will be further meetings this year until the working group is satisfied it has a flexible plan.

‘‘We are working with the sector leaders to develop an area plan for the entire Western Bays schooling network,’’ Ms Casey says.

The ministry anticipates it will report back by the end of September 2014.
