Teens warning

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

Police are ‘‘disappointed but not surprised’’ by an alleged assault on two officers by drunk teenaged girls. The 14 and 18-year-old were arrested on K Rd at about 6pm on Saturday. The officers were following an unrelated incident when the girls started verbally abusing them, Inspector Vaughn Graham says. The alleged assault came after one of the girls was initially arrested for continuing to use offensive language, he says. The officers’ injuries were minor and the girls are facing charges. It’s a timely reminder for parents to take an active interest in their children’s whereabouts and safety, he says. ‘‘We routinely see younger teens coming into the city and are pretty confident that, on many occasions, parents will not be aware of what they are getting up to or where they are. ‘‘Saturday evening in any metropolitan city is not an ideal place for an intoxicated 14-year-old.’’
