With heavy weather forecast to hit this weekend on the back of tropical cyclone Lusi, the coastguard has some advice to help keep boaties safe. Coastguard’s Neil Murray says it is likely much of the country will encounter some severe weather which may include heavy rain, severe gales, large waves and abnormally high tides. As with all cyclones or tropical storms there is still a degree of uncertainty regarding Lusi’s track. This will dictate the exact distribution and extent of any severe weather over the country but will become more accurate to forecast as it approaches New Zealand. Boaties are asked to keep monitoring the situation and the advice from Metservice. Whether you are berthed on a swing mooring, in a marina, or parked in a boat yard, all boaties can visit boatingeducation.org.nz for information on how best to prepare for potential bad weather.
