Nine clubs in the Central Auckland region are busy preparing for the start of the 2014 Lotto Northern League season this week.

The first and second division competitions kick off on Saturday and the premier leagues get under way on April 5 and 6.

Western Springs were named Central Leader Team of the Year title in 2013 largely because of their second division title-winning exploits.

The team will play in the first division this year, starting with a game against Takapuna at Seddon Fields on Saturday.

Mt Albert-Ponsonby and Metro, the other Central Auckland teams in division one, will begin their campaigns with road trips.

Mt Albert-Ponsonby play at Hibiscus Coast’s Stanmore Bay Reserve while Metro head to Madills Farm Reserve to take on Eastern Suburbs.

Onehunga-Mangere United AFC will welcome Oratia United to their Mangere Domain home on Saturday.

Premier league competitors Onehunga Sports, Central United and Three Kings United play the next weekend.
