Very special gala for the community

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

A school devastated by a suspected arson is injecting some fun into the community with its annual gala.

Richmond Rd School’s gala is on Saturday from 11am to 3pm, at 113 Richmond Rd.

Police are still investigating the suspicious fire that destroyed a toilet block, gutted one classroom and severely damaged three others in the early hours of January 12.

Four temporary classrooms were installed to accommodate students while repairs completed.

The fire happened just weeks before the beginning of the school year.

‘‘With the support of staff, the local community and the Ministry of Education, we are back on our feet and up and running again,’’ principal Jonathan Ramsay says.

‘‘We are very grateful to everyone who helped us to start the year on time.

‘‘We want to repay some of that generosity by putting on a really special gala for the whole community.’’
