What do you like best about the city?

The com­bi­na­tion of har­bours and vol­canic cones give am­ple op­por­tu­nity for a mo­ment to ad­mire the nat­u­ral beauty of the city, wher­ever you are head­ing. You just need to stop and make sure you look up.

How long have you lived here and where are you orig­i­nally from?

Born in Welling­ton and made the move to Auck­land at the age of two. I grew up in Waitakere city and have lived on and off in Kings­land/Grey Lynn for the last seven years.

What do you like least and how can we fix it?

Pol­luted wa­ter­ways, lit­ter, an­gry bus driv­ers. A lit­tle con­scious ef­fort look­ing at how our be­hav­iour af­fects the en­vi­ron­ment and peo­ple around us can lead to a bet­ter ex­is­tence for all. For ex­am­ple low im­pact de­sign, walk­ing to a rub­bish bin, tak­ing a deep breath.

Where’s the best place to buy din­ner in the city?

Kuta Bali in Pon­sonby Food Court. Fast ser­vice, al­ways fresh and de­li­cious. I rarely can force my­self to go any­where else.

Who does the best fish n chips?

New­ton Fish and Chip­pery, bagged up and taken down to Me­ola Reef for a sun­set picnic.

Who is the Kiwi you ad­mire most and why?

Lord Echo a.k.a. Mike Fab­u­lous of The Black Seeds. He has re­leased two full al­bums un­der this moniker, pool­ing to­gether some of New Zealand’s finest tal­ent, with a sound that trans­ports you across con­ti­nents and through time.

If I was Auck­land’s mayor I would ..... . Pro­mote the free move­ment of pedes­tri­ans and in­crease shared zone ar­eas within the ur­ban cen­tres. Im­ple­ment ded­i­cated cy­cle lanes and pro­grammes to en­cour­age equal­ity among all road users.
