Crime at 20-year low

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

It’s been a good year for Auckland City Police. Crime is at 20-year low. There were 43,734 offences recorded in the district during 2013 which is 4788 less than in 2012. Burglary and theft were the two most common types of crime. But the numbers were still lower than in 2012. There were four murders in the district last year. All have been resolved. The number of assaults has dropped but there was an increase of 82 sexual assaults, bringing the total number to 372. District commander Superintendent Mike Clement is attributing the results to the overall shift of police towards prevention and a focus on property crime.
