Could you host a foreign exchange student in your home?

Student Exchange Australia New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Ministry of Education. The organisation is looking for host families across New Zealand to welcome an overseas student into their home for anywhere from two months to 10 months.

The Cain family are thrilled to have French student Claire stay with them.

‘‘She is wonderful,’’ host mother Trudie Cain says. ‘‘Claire fits in easily with family life and adapted well to preparing her own breakfast and lunch during the week.

‘‘Her warm and easy going nature made it easy for all the family to get along with her instantly.

‘‘She was very happy to hang out with the family, prepare meals and assist in clearing up after meals.’’

The organisation says hosting experience is an opportunity for both the exchange student and host family to learn about the world around them. It is a unique experience to discover another culture, share your family values, and make lifelong memories and friendships.

Students become another member of the family, attend a local school

and are supported by local coordinators. They all have a basic level of English.
