Pacific artists showcased
Pacific art is at the forefront of a new collaborative project.
The Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust has teamed up with the BizDojo Karangahape Rd arts venue to showcase the work of emerging artists of Pacific heritage.
Poet Amber Esau, photographer Christian Wolfgramm, mixed media artists Lana Lopesi and Mita Gilbert and performer Sione Faletau are some of the artists involved in the project named Backyard Gesture.
It will see a combination of visual art, textile design and performance brought to the K Rd space over three days next week.
Tautai has been mentoring Pacific talent since the 1980s.
The partnership with BizDojo is an important step forward for the trust, manager Christina Jeffery says.
‘‘This project represents a significant development for Tautai in moving beyond conventional spaces and communities to build audiences for and develop the profile of Pacific art and artists.’’
BizDojo Auckland community manager Talia Smith says there is a ‘‘boom’’ of creative people working in the commercial and artistic fields at the moment.
Backyard Gesture runs from May 8 to 10 at 150 K Rd.
Pacific talent: Work by visual artist Christina Pataialii will be displayed in a project showcasing the work of Pacific emerging artists at the BizDojo PopUp Gallery.
