30 YEARS OF SPEAKING UP
Dr Kim McGregor has been executive director of Rape Prevention Education Whakatu Mauri since 2005. She has worked as a therapist with survivors of sexual violence since 1986.
She has written two self-help books, Warriors of Truth and Surviving and Moving On, for adult survivors of child sexual abuse. McGregor also wrote the first set of ACC national guidelines for therapists working in the field.
She has been on the Task Force for Action on Sexual Violence, was a founding member of Project Restore and served on ACC’s Sensitive Claims Advisory Group from 2011 to 2013. Her work with ACC was on behalf of Te Ohaaki a Hine National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together Tauiwi Caucus, which she was on for almost nine years.
McGregor led the first national sexual violence prevention strategy from 2005 to 2013 and set up the first national sexual violence prevention co-ordinator role.
She works alongside schools, whanau and rangatahi programmes on Rape Prevention Education initiatives. She is working to extend prevention programmes to 120 schools across Auckland.
