Strike a new chord in town

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

Passers-by can tickle the ivories in Wynyard Quarter once again as a piano makes a comeback to the waterfront spot.

The piano has taken up residence in a shipping container on Daldy St and is free to use by anyone wanting to play a tune.

It is the third piano to find a home in Wynyard Quarter, replacing older ones which are now in storage. Waterfront Auckland hopes the initiative, inspired by a similar project popular in Britain, fosters a sense of community.

The piano has been a hit with Aucklanders in the past, with everyone from office and construction workers to toddlers giving it a go.

The instrument will be available to play during daylight hours in the same spot for the next few months.

A small gallery of photos of people playing Wynyard Quarter’s pianos is displayed in the shipping container.

Share your photos with Waterfront Auckland using the hashtag #wqpiano to have them included.
