Art world is buzzing

Do you want to know what the buzz is about pollen ho­tels and pas­ture paint­ings?

Artists, sci­en­tists and bee­keep­ers will demon­strate pol­li­na­tion, honey mak­ing, and ev­ery­thing bee-re­lated at the ‘‘Bee­jam’’ at Pon­sonby’s Art­sta­tion on Satur­day.

The demon­stra­tion is part of a se­ries of in­ter­ac­tive projects which are pop­ping up across the city streets, beaches and parks this month.

The ini­tia­tive called POP is be­ing driven by a col­lec­tive of artists and sup­ported by the Waite- mata Lo­cal Board. It uses cre­ative ex­pe­ri­ences to chal­lenge how Auck­lan­ders per­ceive the city they live in and people within it.

Pas­ture paint­ings and geo­met­ric forms cre­ated

the from a pal­ette of pol­len­rich pas­ture will be dis­played at six sites across the city, in­clud­ing Mo­tions Rd in Western Springs and Bos­ton Rd in Mt Eden this month. The paint­ings act as pollen ho­tels for cen­trally lo­cated bee­hives.
