Plan for diabetics

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

A new nutrition and activity programme could help improve the health of people at risk of diabetes.

The Choose Change programme supports people who have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic or with type-2 diabetes by providing them with a personalised plan, which includes goal setting, nutrition advice and exercise options.

Participants’ progress will then be monitored over a six-month period.

The Harbour Sport Trust has been awarded a $500,000 contract to run the programme, Health Minister Tony Ryall says.

The trust is partnering with Sport Auckland, Sport Waitakere and Counties Manukau Sport to deliver it.

‘‘The programme is very comprehensive,’’ Ryall says.

‘‘It will give people the tools to make positive changes to their lifestyle and take control of their own health.’’

The programme will run from July for 12 months to allow for three six-month programmes to be delivered to about 240 people throughout Auckland.
