Soprano performs Mozart
Soprano soloist Patricia Wright will perform a Mozart classic at the Bach Musica New Zealand concert on Sunday.
The Aucklander has been a regular soloist with Bach Musica for four years and will perform Mozart’s Requiem.
‘‘It’s one of the great works by Mozart,’’ she says.
‘‘It’s fantastic music, the joy of singing with the orchestra and singing with a group of people who have a passion for music.’’
Wright trained with Sister Mary Leo who is known for training some of the world’s finest sopranos, including Dame Malvina Major and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
Her early success resulted in con- certs, television performances and many recitals for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation.
When Wright graduated from the Victoria College of the Arts in Melbourne, she received a scholarship to enable her to study in Europe.
Soon after arriving in London, Wright was awarded second prize in the Benson & Hedges Gold Award for Singers and she represented New Zealand in the Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
This will be her third concert with Bach Musica.
Bach Musica NZ, conducted by Rita Paczian, will perform on June 8, 5pm at the Auckland Town Hall.
