It’s rubbish to litter!

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

What do you like best about the city?

Its unique location nestled between two beautiful harbours, excellent fishing and good waves out west. Where else in the world could you spear a kingfish so close to a big city on one day, then surf alongside stunning native bush the next?

How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I have been in Auckland for four years on and off now, as we also run projects around the country and in the Pacific Islands. I originally hail from the windy capital.

What do you like least and how can we fix it?

Stupid behaviour that impacts other people like littering. If everyone knew that the rubbish we drop on the street is being eaten by fish and poisoning the food chain they wouldn’t do it because it simply does not make sense. Spread- ing awareness and eliminating badly designed single-use plastic would fix this easily.

Where’s the best place to buy dinner in the city?

If you have a few dollars in your pocket then Depot is hard to beat, but for lowly charity workers like me, go to New Flavour Restaurant on Dominion Rd for handmade dumplings. Epic.

Who does fish’n’chips?

Mt Eden Fish Shop hands down. They will even fillet and smoke your fish for you if you bring it out the back.

Who is the Kiwi you admire most and why?

Barbara Kendall is an amazing woman. This is not because of her sporting prowess but her unending drive to help people across the Pacific. She deserves to be a dame.

If I was Auckland’s mayor I

the

best would . . .

Take out the fast lane on the motorway and replace it with a train. If that is too much in one go then at least put a walkway and cycleway on the harbour bridge.

When I’ve got a few hours free I like to . . .

Play with my 2-year-old daughter at the beach.

The spot in the city I’d recommend most to tourists is . . .

Whatipu Beach for a day trip or Aotea/Great Barrier Island

for a weekend.

Sam: It’s common sense to just put your litter in the bin.
