Maori arts and cul­ture are be­ing show­cased dur­ing Matariki, Maori New Year, from June 28 to July 28. Events are tak­ing place through­out Auck­land. Here is a se­lec­tion of what’s on in the cen­tral city.

Whaka­puawai 2014 cel­e­brates Moari busi­ness suc­cess and takes place at Q Theatre on June 28 from 6.30pm to 9pm.

The Mod­ern Maori Quar­tet will per­form at Te Mahure­hure Marae in Point Cheva­lier on June 29 from 7.30pm to 9:30pm.

Mana Wahine is an all-fe­male per­for­mance put on by Okareka Dance Com­pany at Q Theatre from July 2 to 5 at 7.30pm.

Weav­ing the CBD is an ex­hi­bi­tion by Annabelle Buick held at Kura Gallery from July 14 to July 18, 11am to 4pm. She ex­plores per­spec­tives of the CBD through pat­tern mak­ing and the use of non-tra­di­tional ma­te­ri­als.

Makau­rau Ses­sions en­com­passes mu­sic, dance, po­etry, sto­ry­telling and more. It will be held at Te Karanga Gallery in Karanga­hape Rd from July 11 to July 13, as well as a pub­lic show­case on July 24 at 8pm.

Matariki on the Wa­ter­front fea­tures per­for­mance, art, mu­sic and mar­kets. It takes place at Silo Park on July 25 from 5pm to 10pm and July 26-27 from noonto 6pm.
