Maori arts and culture are being showcased during Matariki, Maori New Year, from June 28 to July 28. Events are taking place throughout Auckland. Here is a selection of what’s on in the central city.
Whakapuawai 2014 celebrates Moari business success and takes place at Q Theatre on June 28 from 6.30pm to 9pm.
The Modern Maori Quartet will perform at Te Mahurehure Marae in Point Chevalier on June 29 from 7.30pm to 9:30pm.
Mana Wahine is an all-female performance put on by Okareka Dance Company at Q Theatre from July 2 to 5 at 7.30pm.
Weaving the CBD is an exhibition by Annabelle Buick held at Kura Gallery from July 14 to July 18, 11am to 4pm. She explores perspectives of the CBD through pattern making and the use of non-traditional materials.
Makaurau Sessions encompasses music, dance, poetry, storytelling and more. It will be held at Te Karanga Gallery in Karangahape Rd from July 11 to July 13, as well as a public showcase on July 24 at 8pm.
Matariki on the Waterfront features performance, art, music and markets. It takes place at Silo Park on July 25 from 5pm to 10pm and July 26-27 from noonto 6pm.
