Heart study

Par­tic­i­pants are be­ing sought for a new study to de­ter­mine if a smart­phone ap­pli­ca­tion can help peo­ple with heart dis­ease eat less salt. Re­searchers are look­ing for 300 Auck­lan­ders with heart dis­ease, aged 40 years and above. Study par­tic­i­pants will be ran­domly al­lo­cated to an in­ter­ven­tion group which will have ac­cess to the app, or a con­trol group, which won’t. Peo­ple se­lected to join the study will be asked to at­tend two as­sess­ments ei­ther at the Univer­sity of Auck­land clin­ics in Glen Innes or at the Auck­land Hos­pi­tal clin­ics in Grafton. Par­tic­i­pants need to own a smart­phone ca­pa­ble of down­load­ing apps and will be re­im­bursed for their time and travel to at­tend the study vis­its.
